lessons of motherhood

Motherhood is a perpetual series of lessons. They never stop. Every day there is something new to learn and I’ve figured out that even though I’m 2+ years and 2 kids in, the lessons aren’t stopping any time soon. I will always be growing and learning and developing as a Mom. But for now, here are some of the important lessons I've learned.

I’ve learned that no matter how little sleep you get, somehow, someway, you can still look at your baby in the morning and love them, smile at them and perhaps even forget how awful the previous night was. Similarly, you always seem to figure out how to function – even when it seems impossible.

I’ve learned that it doesn’t make me a bad mom to want and need time away from my kids. In fact, I’ve learned that it makes me a better, more refreshed, more engaged mom.

I’ve learned that there are a host of other people in this world who are perfectly capable of taking care of my children. I have learned that Daddy, Grandparents, friends, aunts and uncles are actually able to keep them alive in my absence. They are usually even able to keep them fed, happy and asleep, as well. I still have not learned how to refrain from checking in though.

I have learned that no matter how wonderful it is to get away from them sometimes, coming back is always better.

I’ve learned that showers are optional. And that you can actually wash and condition your hair, scrub your body and shave your arm pits in less than 4 minutes.

I’ve learned that coffee is delicious.

I’ve learned that Jesus was on to something when He spoke of having faith like a child. I’ve learned that my children can teach me more about my faith and my God than I’ve learned in a lifetime of going to church.

I’ve learned that patience truly is a virtue and it’s not always easy to come by.

I’ve learned that children can pick up on so much more than we realize and that they watch what I do as much, or more, than listen to what I say.

I’ve learned that asking for help is okay.

I’ve learned that despite knowing they will all get dragged out again in the morning, the toys need to be cleaned up every single night for the sake of my sanity.

I’ve learned that just when you get a kid figured out, they change it up on you.

I’ve learned that it’s a constant guessing game.

I’ve learned that my children will surprise me daily. I’ve learned that they will never stop amazing me.

I’ve learned so much.

I’ve learned to be a new person. I’ve learned to love in a new way.

And I will keep on learning.

I love this post!

My favorite...if I had to pick just one...is learning more about faith and God from children than a lifetime of going to church. So, so very true.
