Surviving

It’s no secret that I’ve been spoiled through my postpartum period. Both my mother and mother-in-law were here for the birth. My mother-in-law left later that morning, and my mom stayed on for another full week. When Gwen was one week old, they did the magic Nana switch, my mom heading home (um, yeah, hello tears) and Evan’s mom joining us. She was here from Monday to Friday of last week and then went home for the weekend to take care of a few things, arriving back here yesterday to stay until this coming Friday.

So yea. That means I’ve had an extra pair of hands, and Nana hands at that, around basically the entire time since Gwen has been born.

But – I did get a chance on the weekend to dip my toes in the whole Mom of 2U2 business on my own while she was gone for the weekend and Monday and Evan was busy working at the new house. Andddd, I even managed to swing a night by myself as some last minute planning meant he had to head out of town to pick up the flooring for the house.

And, guess what? Despite my fears and reservations, I actually survived. I wasn’t entirely on my own, as I still had a few friends pop by for a few hours over the course of the weekend but still. I’m going to pretend it was my debut.

On Saturday, I managed to get kids dressed, fed, dinner made, some laundry thrown in and the dishwasher taken care of. I even showered somehow. I felt like a superstar. Perspective on what it means to be productive sure changes when you have an infant, am I right?

Of course, my superstar status is all thanks to the fact that I have a newborn who is far sleepier than her big sister ever was and so there are a number of hours in my day that still feel like I just have one kid.

But, let’s just put that fact aside and pretend I’m a superstar so I don’t panic thinking about what will happen on Friday when my help leaves for good. M’kay? M’kay.

Proud of you woman. Kind of can't wait for that perspective shift on what it's like to be "productive" b/c right now my standards are too high. (hello nesting).

You are the second mom blogger I have read writing about baby #2 sleeping more than #1 this week. My fingers are crossed I get the same experience come December. And you are TOTALLY a rock star for the dishes, laundry, and shower with 2U2!!!

YOU ARE a rockstar!!!!! You are going to be just fine when your help leaves! You were obviously made to be a Momma of 2U2!!!!

I hate to break it to you but that perspective is still different even when they aren't two under two. Two in general makes everything cah-razy. Just sayin'. Yawn.

You're doing great! I always loved/hated the first day of being on my own. I knew I could do it; I always thought of worse case scenarios so my first day would seem like a breeze (hopefully!).

I love hearing all of the Gwen and Eva stories the last two weeks! You have two precious little girls, mama! It only gets better, too! Woo!

You are awesome......I'm afraid I haven't faired as well. My husband has been wonderful, and he's says I am too hard on myself. I'll give myself a few more weeks and hopefully I'll feel rockstar worthy as well! :)
