1. I don’t own a pair of baby nail clippers. I don’t know why. I guess I just never got them at a baby shower and then forgot to pick them up as one of my last minute essentials before she was born. The first time we noticed her nails were getting sharp, Evan bit them off and I thought, “Hm, I’ll need to pick up some tiny clippers”. The second time they got sharp, I bit them off and thought, “Hm, I still need to pick up some tiny clippers”. The third time they got sharp … you get the point. We have spent the past 8 months biting off her sharp fingers nails.
2. I can’t spell niece. Every single time I type it (including this time), I see that blasted red spell check line and have to go switch it. Apparently there is something about that “I before E except after C'” rule that exceeds my intelligence level. I also have trouble with other words that have an I, E, C string.
3. We live in the country and out here some of the roads are not in that great of shape. There are pot holes galore. Apparently I suck at driving because almost every time I come to a pot hole and swerve to miss it, I drive directly through it. Don’t tell my husband.
4. I am a particular person. I like things to go a certain way. I’m sure many of you are laughing at this, shall we say, understatement. This trait that I possess explains why I have been secretly proud of myself for making it this far without ever losing a single baby sock. That’s right – not one. Until last Thursday when I was folding Eva’s laundry in preparation for our weekend away and the hamper was empty. All except this little demon staring me in the face…
A sock with no match. Between last Thursday and now, the mystery of the missing sock has been driving me nuts. It’s taking everything in my power not to turn my house upside down in search of the missing sock. Seriously. Me = crazy.
5. Speaking of my crazy particular control freak characteristics, Eva has a few sets of stacking cups. I’m sure you all know the ones. Different colours, each has a number and they stack inside each other. Simple. Well, only simple until Cup # 3 and Cup # 4 go missing and the stack is off balance. Looking at the stack and seeing that the patterns and sizes were uneven made me twitchy. I admit, in this case, I did flip the house upside down looking for the cups. And never found them. Until we went to E’s aunts house for dinner and found them sitting on the stairs. Because when they babysat they stole them. Not on purpose. Although that would be a cruel joke to pull on someone like me. Thankfully, the cups are back, the stack is balanced, and my life is at ease. Except for that darn sock….
6. I don’t iron. I own an ironing board and iron but can seriously count on one hand the times I’ve used it. I have a joke with people in my family who come here and ask to use my iron. When they ask where I usually set it up, I say, “Well, the first time I ironed, I put it here. And the second time I put it there”. I’m lucky my husband does physical labour for a living and doesn’t expect me to iron his coveralls.
7. And one last laundry related tidbit. I absolutely detest the fact that my dryer takes almost double the length of time to run through it’s cycle than the washing machine. Once again, don’t these appliances realize that I need balance in my life? When I am doing laundry and the washing machine is done and I still have to wait a thousand hours to switch the load because the dryer is not finished? Might as well send me straight into a tizzy.

OMG this post is totally me (warning: world's longest comment ever coming up)! (1)We have clippers for A, but I much prefer the biting method - I'm still scared I'm going to cut her little fingers! (2)Every single time I spell niece I have to go back and fix it. Every time! (3)We don't live in the country, but my husband always asks me if I was "aiming at that pothole"! (4) I, too, have only lost one baby sock and its mate sat on our dryer for a good 3 weeks until I found it (FYI, check E's crib sheet - that's where I found A's)! (5)We haven't gotten to this stage quite yet, but the few toy sets that A does play with I religiously store the pieces together when she's done with them for fear of them getting lost, or worse yet, mixed up with another toy set! (6)I only iron if my life depends upon it - and even then I don't usually do a very good job. I'm a huge fan of throwing things back in the dryer to get the wrinkles out! (7)This drives me absolutely insane! So much so that I've actually considered getting a new dryer to fix this problem - then I realized that my money tree out back has already been picked bare! :)
Ha, we don't use baby clippers either! I did a few times as a teeny tiny baby and I HATED doing it. And another secret about that? We honestly don't do anything to trim them, I don't know how her nails don't grow super long.
I haven't lost a baby sock either. Going on 11 months! My trick? WHen the socks come off Connor, they go into a lingerie bag for washing and drying. My little trick to not losing any ;)
Oh and if you ever purchase baby clippers? Don't! We use the cuticle cutters (look like scissors). They work so much better!
I'm totally with you on numbers 6 and 7. I loath ironing, downy wrinkle releaser is my best friend! Do you have that? Get it, now! And OMG I want to kill my dryer. It takes an eternity to dry anything especially Ethan's diapers. Argh!
When I had my daughter 11 years ago, my mom made me promise that I would never use baby nail clippers on her, and only to bite them off since they are so soft. The reason? Apparently she made me bleed on the second day of my life, and has had nightmares ever since!
1. Get clippers pronto and get her used to them. You can't bite her nasty dirty nails when she is 2 and she'll be much stronger to fight you.
2. I can't figure out the e,i,c rule either. And I spell surprise wrong every. single. time.
3. I can't help you on the pot hole thing, but we do have a lot of road kill that I'm pretty good a missing.
4. Unpaired socks drive me nuts too, I have a certain spot I put singles so they won't be lost when their friend shows up.
5. Any toy that has a certain order must stay in that order. Luke has several stacking/sorting toys and not only do I pride myself that nothing has been lost, I pounce as soooooon as he's done playing and fix it. Okay, sometimes even while he's still playing.
6. You know I gave up ironing months ago, and now I don't even have to feel guilty about it. ;)
Oh, this is funny. You are me, three kids ago. Now? What baby socks?
I also don't iron. And my husband wears dress pants and dress shirts every day, so I sort of should. But I don't. I won't. I never will. My mother is horrified by this. It's her old fashioned housewife ideals coming out. I don't care if I stay home. I do enough. Ironing is firmly in the camp of Jess Never Does.
We bought a new washing machine last year. And? It has an EXTENDED SPIN cycle on it. Know what that means? Less water in the clothes. So a load of jeans can dry in a half hour. Best 500 bucks I ever spent. Ever.
oh yes...I can relate with Kara's mother...I too made my first son's nail bleed soon after we were home from the hospital...never used clippers again (never did use them myself anyway). Now I freak out when I try to do the dog's nail...yuck!! As for socks - it gets worse - wait till you loose a shoe. I'm sure I've told you one of our stories about losing shoes. I mean what good is a shoe when it's no longer a pair!!
haha I don't iron either. My husband is the one who is crazy iron man, as in he is the one who irons.
Also i have lost VERY SINGLE PAIR of socks my child has owned, i just keep buying cheap new packs, and living in florida this year we haven't needed them much, thanks goodness
Oh my gosh! I feel the same way abou the darn washer/dryer time difference! It bugs me every time I do laundry!
And I've said it before on my blog too, but honestly, I don't iron. Ever. We should start a club.
Omg. We are more twin-like than I ever imagined. I CANNOT SPELL NEICE, I MEAN NIECE. I swear to Gawwwd that I always misspell it at least once before I get it right. And? I'm a decent speller.
You know I am not remotely particular, but 1,2 and6...right there with ya.
