The Vacation

Here is a quick recap of my time away. It really wasn't overly exciting and I did not do well on the photo-taking front, so I apologize.

Last weekend, we headed to my in-laws for the weekend. Recently, FD's grandma moved into a nursing home so his mom has been busy sorting stuff according to whether it should be kept or sold and so on. Kudos to her for doing such a great job with it all. Last weekend, we had a large garage sale to get rid of the stuff that she thought should be sold. It was very successful and most stuff was taken, including almost all of the furniture that was not wanted by any of Grammie's relatives. We got some things that I will possibly showcase at a later date. I found it incredible that some of the things I thought would be sure sells were still hanging out at the end of the day and some of the stuff that I thought was absolute *junk* was gone in no time at all. I guess the saying, one man's trash another man's treasure is right. We had a lot of fun at the sale and we were all able to find a little something something ...

On Sunday, the fabulous dude returned to our home and my in-laws took me to my grandma's cottage which is about 45 minutes from their house. I spent the next few days here with them ...

On Monday, my friend Be joined me for the day. We had a blast sitting in the sun, eating cosmic fries and funnel cakes and listening to my Grandpa tell jokes. It was fairly windy so it was too cold to spend the day at the beach, but the cottage is nice and sheltered from the wind and has a beautiful view of the beach so it was lovely just to hang out on the front lawn. Aside from almost being killed by a seagull who was after our cosmic fries, the day was well spent. And yes, they are called cosmic fries because they are outta this world.

On Tuesday, I drove my grandma 3 hours for a doctor's appointment. Her sister joined us for the day which made for a very interesting ride. Let me just say, these women are crazzzzzy! On Wednesday, I just hung out at the cottage and relaxed. My brother in law came over for dinner that night and my grandma thought it would be a blast to take turns riding her scooter. When she got on it, I could hardly keep up. She drove it part way around the block and then got off and told me to bring it home.
My brother in law and I also went out for gelato (remember my mission?) Well, it was a fail. This gelato was horrible.

Then on Thursday, my MIL picked me up again and we headed out to meet up with FD's oldest sister. She has two daughters who were excited to come spend a week at Nana's house. The FD joined us on Friday evening. We spent the next few days playing, riding our bikes, reading books and having a hotdog roast out at the cabin. Unfortunately, my MIL found a snake in the cabin so it is quite possible that I will never set foot in there again. She found the snake curled up on a couch cushion. The same couch cushion that had a piece of paper on it that I leaned down to read just 5 mintues before her discovery. All evidence suggests that I had my face mere inches from a snake. This thought causes me to shudder. I just hope my husband realizes how lucky he is that I didn't discover the snake when my face was leaned down towards it. Ickkkk..........

We returned home last night, stopping for a quick ice cream treat and some groceries on the way. I was lucky enough to come home to a disgustingly dirty house. Usually when I come home from being away, he has the house spotless for me but last week, he took advantage of my absence to get a lot of work done on a side job he's doing right now, so I can't blame him. I will spend today cleaning up and then tomorrow it will be back to work on my thesis.

The garden is growing and we're really starting to reap the benefits of it. I'll showcase some photos later in the week. Also, there is an exciting new venture taking place here at our household. Check back tomorrow to see what's going on!

Awww... I'm so glad you had a relaxing trip! I am very glad, too, to hear that you did not discover that snake; I would have died if I had found out a snake had been sitting so close to me! I can deal with most things, but snakes? Yuck! Glad you escaped unscathed. :)

oh, a new venture?!? Exciting.

Glad you had a fun trip -- minus the snake, of course ;-)
