In the Nick of Time

Remember back at the beginning of the month when I wrote a little list of all the things I wanted to accomplish this month?

Well, the month is nearly over. And some of the things have been accomplished. Some have not.

But the item on the very top of the list?

Go on a date with my husband?

We finally crossed that one off.

Last week, I realized the month was almost over and we hadn’t had a date. And didn’t really have definite plans to do so.

But thank the Lord for Nana.

My mom arrived here on Sunday afternoon and is staying until Thursday. I am so thankful for her help. The baby’s still not feeling great and so having an extra pair of hands and a Nana to distract the sickie is wonderful.

And what’s even better is that despite her not feeling good, Evan and I were still able to go out last night. (Please do not tell me I’m a bad mom for going on a date when my baby is sick. Because I’m not. Mkay, thanks).

At first, I wanted to go to a fancy schmancy restaurant. One where we wouldn’t take a baby. But then I thought to heck with that! I want me some nachos.

So we headed to the Feathery Pub for deep fried dill pickles, feathery nachos, BBQ chicken pizza, a Guinness and a Seabreeze.

And we had conversation. Real adult conversation. Of course, we did talk about our girl … quite a bit. But it was nice to be out alone. As two adults.

I was instructed by my mom that I was not allowed to call or text to see if the baby went down okay. I would have to trust that she’d let me know if there was a problem. And so I did. I managed to refrain from texting her until we were back in the driveway, when I wrote, “Hope all is going well. We’ll see ya in the morning!”

Of course, Eva did wonderfully going to bed for her Nana. She had her bath, took her bottle, and didn’t make another peep. She waited until 15 minutes after we got home to wake up and never go back to sleep. Okay, that’s an exaggeration. But? Sickie baby sleeplessness is the pits.

So, thanks, Mom! You got here just in the nick of time.

And? I think we’ll make this date night thing happen more often.

You are sooo not a bad mom for going out while baby is sick. As long as someone competent is there to take care of her.. and since it was your mama? Well, you turned our alright, didn't ya?

Dates are important. We try to do it once a month. Heck, every time we go out we don't always use our parents as sitters. There are some perfectly capable high school girls willing to crush on Connor. Plus, it is good for him to have others watch him, and great for our marriage to get out and do adult things.

Hope she is feeling better!

So glad you two got to get out. Even tho I myself am hesitant about it (when the *rare* opportunity occurs) I know how important it is.

I hope Ev enjoyed that keg.

You aren't a bad momma at all for going out. Spending a couple hours away from your babe and getting a mental/emotional boost by going out is okay - actually, I think it is essential in being a GOOD parent.
