Bath Time Beauty

Over the past few weeks, I have really started to feel like Evalyn and I are beginning to get in the groove.

We’re figuring things out.

We are far from having any kind of schedule in our days, but I can definitely see some patterns emerging and know that we are developing a routine together.

My days are becoming more predictable.

And one of my favourite things about her development has been watching her figure things out and start to learn her routine.

I notice this especially when it comes to bath time. For the sake of consistency and because she likes it so darn much, we have made the decision to give Evalyn a bath every night before bed.

Since the very beginning of her life, she has loved bath time. I think it’s because we introduced her to it so quickly. She was in the tub in an herbal bath with me six hours after birth and every day following for the first two weeks of her life.

Now, most of her baths are taken care of by Daddy in her little infant tub, but occasionally I still like to run the big bath and enjoy bath time with her.

She usually has her bath between 7:15-7:45 p.m. By this time in the evening she is often, shall we say, less than pleasant. But over this past week, I have noticed her mood changing dramatically as soon as she clues in and realizes it’s time for her bath.

The other night, we were skyping with her grandparents and she was getting pretty fussy. I signed off and put her in her bouncy seat while I got things ready. She was whining and fussing and hollering and all together complaining. I kept talking to her as I went about getting things ready, telling her to be patient and we’d have a bath in a minute.

Once I had her tub filled up and on the counter and her towel out beside it, I went to get the crying child from her bouncy seat and laid her down on her towel to begin undressing her.

And guess what?

The tears stopped immediately.

In fact, she started smiling again. And cooing.

She was peaceful and content.

Because she knew what time it was.

And the same thing happened the next night, too.

It’s so neat that she can recognize that when she is placed on the counter on top of her towel that it means bath time is a comin’.

I am sure many of you reading this will think that this is one of those “you are a crazy parent who thinks everything about their child is amazing” things – and it probably is – but let me tell you, seeing these developments is so incredible.

My girl is a bath time beauty and I love.love.love watching her grow and learn.

One of my favorite memories of Roscoe as a new baby was our bath time. We took baths together in our big tub on most nights too--or sometimes in the morning since it was the only way I could figure out how to get clean myself! Roscoe is a water baby--who knows if that's why, but I do miss those days, when we could both float around comfortably. I haven't tried it in a while, but I've thought about it and wondered if we'd even fit!

Livie is the same way with her bath. The SECOND she hears the tub go on, she starts smiling and giggling and babbling up a storm. And when she's naked? She's in heaven.

Babies are just so mich fun.

Ahhh the magic of bathtime. Want to know a secret? Water + cranky kid works for A LOT more years. I still send my 10 y.o. to take a shower when she gets huffy. It still works. Yay, water!!
