The View From Here

Last Spring/Summer, I did a mediocre job of tracking the progress of our garden's growth by posting some "View From Here" posts. I have decided that I'd like to keep up with this again this year - and hopefully do a better job - by keeping track of how things are growing at first, and then by showing you what I harvest and what I have made/cooked/preserved etc with the harvest.

Although the potatoes and strawberries were planted/transplanted several weeks ago, most of our garden was planted during the course of this week. I have to say, I have not had much to do with the garden so far. Usually I like to get out there and help the FD get things planted, but this year, it just didn't happen. But don't you worry - I will make up for it!

Things aren't looking overly exciting in the garden right now as all of the plants are quite small and many of them that we plant from seed haven't even germinated yet. But nevertheless, it's fun to see how it looks at the start so that we can watch it progress.

The potato plants are starting to come up

What We The Dude Has Planted:
- strawberries
- swiss chard
- lettuce
- beans
- red and white potatoes
- roma tomatoes
- early girl tomatoes
- red pepper
- yellow pepper
- green pepper

What We Have Left to Plant:
- beets
- radish
- carrots
- cherry tomatoes
- grape tomatoes
- butternut squash
- acorn squash
- zucchini
- summer squash
- cucumber
- okra

And just for fun here are a few pictures of the cherry trees .... In a few weeks, we'll be enjoying fresh from the tree cherries! I can hardly wait.

And to finish off - our (nameless) pet duck.... Anyone want to choose a name for him?

How do you keep animals out of the garden? We have a bazillion rabbits and our garden has to be fenced.

Poor little nameless duck :(. I'm not good with names though so no help here lol.

WOW girl, I see how you save on your grocery bill now. You just need to put up a cow and then you'd have your meat for a whole year too.

That is quiet a garden! I'm super jealous about the cherry tree. That sounds so good! And I'm not so sure about E's suggestion of the duck's name. That seems a little long.

Can't wait to live on my in-laws farm again this summer! Did you or the FD grow up on a farm?
