A Big Day for Baby

Today was a big big day for Baby C. Today was officially the day that he/she started collecting stuff! And, today is the day that he/she received his/her first present. **Sidenote: this he/she and his/her business is uber annoying ... I am just going to stick with saying 'he' even though I don't know if it's a boy or not.

It started this morning when I went to a lady's house to check out some slings she had listed on Kijiji (which is the Canadian version of Craigslist). She used to run her own business of handmade pouch slings and now that her youngest child is in school, she's going back to work full time so is discontinuing her line of slings. Because of this, she is looking to clear her inventory. So, she's selling her slings for 25.00 instead of the original price of 75.00. When I got there, she sized me and gave me some slings to try on. They were all so pretty! The one I ended up getting was only my second favorite. She had a few left in my favorite pattern, but the only one that was close to fitting me was an inch and a half smaller than the one she fitted me with. Even though she thought it would probably be an okay size for me, she advised me to go with the bigger size in case I gain weight and increase size in a certain area of my body once the baby is born. She said normally she would tell me to get the smaller one and I could exchange it if it didn't work, but since she'll be completely done with the slings by the time our baby's born, she thought it was best to go this way. After some thought, I think I might go back and buy the other one as well. If it turns out that one of them doesn't work for sizing once the baby is born, I can always pass it on to someone else who it will fit.

Anyway, this is the one I ended up getting....

At first I was a bit skeptical of getting one with so much pink in it, in case it's a boy but she said most mom's pick a pattern according to their taste and wear it regardless of the sex of the baby. I think this makes sense, as it will be more of an accessory for me than for the baby. Do you like it?

This is the other pattern that I like better that I am still considering going back to get ...

And as if that wasn't enough excitement for one day, when I got home from my meeting today, I decided to take advantage of the super super gorgeous weather and go for a big walk around the block with Nika.

When we got home, I stopped to check the mailbox and was so excited to find a package for me from Shaina! I knew there was a package on the way from her because she told me she had sent me one of her favorite chocolate bars but when I opened it up I found that there was more!

The baby's very first gift.

How stinkin' cute and tiny are they? If you can't tell from the picture, they have elephants on them, which is one of my favorite themes for baby clothes/accessories.

And, there was something delightful for Mama in there, too.

Thanks so much, S! I'm off to enjoy some dark sea salt chocolate (which actually tastes quite a lot better than it sounds - I was not entirely sure about the idea at first).

Both slings are so cute, I can see why you want to go back and get the other!

I am going to have to keep my eyes open for some fabulous baby things to send you. This will be vicarious fun for me too, because as old as I am, I have never been around any mommies to be. So thank you for letting me be all girly and baby cooing!

Love the sling. So are you not finding out? I know you have a little while to go still, but I think you said you weren't?

Those little outfits are darling! They grow so fast! Peanut's clothes look huge compared to those. :)

Ooh what a fun baby day! I love the slings. Personally, the second is my fav. too, but ony because I usually just stick with pink for my girls. I'm not quite brave enough to wear it myself. ;)

Now enjoy that yummy chocolate.
Nighty night.

XO*T

I love the slings! Both of them! I've never seen these before.. probably because I haven't been looking though.

You better set aside a room for all the stuff you are about to start collecting :)
