Bursting at the Seams!

Friends, let me tell you, I have been bursting at the seams to tell you all about my pregnancy over the past month or so! But, the fabulous dude and I needed some time to savour the news on our own and to share it with our family and friends. Since I have so many IRL friends/family who read my blog, I had to keep my lips sealed. I have to admit, this is likely going to become a baby blog. What can I say? I am crazy excited about my baby and we write about what we're excited about, don't we?

We found out we were expecting a little one on January 10th. I took a test because I had a small suspicion something might be going on and I was getting ready to go bridesmaid's dress shopping with Caley. I knew I would be ticked if I went and bought a dress only later to find out I was pregnant. I decided I would take the test, discover I was not pregnant and then be on my way. Much to my (very happy) surprise, the test came out positive.

Now, I've always had all sorts of elaborate dreams and ideas about how I would break the news to the FD when the time came to tell him he was going to be a daddy. None of those dreams ever included me running into our room at 6 am, flipping on the light, jumping on him, and yelling, "Ev ... Ev ... wake up, I'm pregnant". Granted, in none of my dreams did I ever picture his response being, "Can you turn off the light? And ... go take another test" either. But, as soon as I saw the positive I could not contain myself and I had to tell him immediately.

I went ahead and went dress shopping that day. Lucky for me, Caley picked the colour and is allowing us all to pick our own style of dress. I just pretended I couldn't pick which one I liked best, and planned to go back later when I could openly discuss my dilemma. Which will be tomorrow. Wish me luck finding one that will fit a 6 month pregnant belly!

When I got home from dress shopping, we started talking about how we would tell our families. I was going to wait a few days to tell my parents, but of course, I couldn't even wait a single second, so we jumped in the car and headed 1 1/2 hours away to surprise them. The way we broke the news to them included a box containing a pregnancy test, a hidden camera, some nicky nicky nine doors and the FD and I hiding in the bushes. I was going to include the video, but it'ss dark and hard to hear, and was taking forever to upload.

We spent the rest of that week savouring our news. We both experienced so many emotions. I can't even describe the feeling. It took the FD a little while to come around to the idea of being a daddy, but soon enough, he was just as excited as I.

The next weekend, we had plans to head to FD's hometown for his Grandma's birthday party. When we got there on Friday night, we got Nika to make the announcement to his parents. If you can't read it, she's wearing a shirt that says "ONLY CHILD" with a note stapled to it that says "but not for long".

We've spent the last month or so telling the rest of our family members and friends and getting ourselves accustomed to the idea of becoming parents. We have both waited for this for so long and we are so thankful that God knows the desires of our hearts and has blessed us in this way!

I'm now 9.5 weeks and have been experiencing morning sickness something fierce! I am crossing my fingers that it will soon taper off as I near the end of my first trimester ... but either way, it's a price I'm more than willing to pay! It will all be worth it the day I get to hold my sweet baby in my arms!

Thank you all so much for your well wishes, congratulations and excitement that you expressed when I made the announcement. It is such a blessing to know already how loved our baby is by all of our family and friends (blog friends included!)

My husband and I were so much like you. I too, had these wonderful ideas of how to break the news to him and it was the same as you....first thing in the morning as we were getting ready for work. And we couldn't wait a moment to tell our parents. We both went over there right after dinner to surprise them. But our roles were reversed, he was SUPER excited and I was a deer in the headlights at first. But it took me about 3 hours and I was super excited as well.

Congrats again, I am so excited for you both.

I love the dog-included announcement! Cute!

Praying for that morning sickness! That is the number one thing I fear about being pregnant myself, so without even experiencing it, I feel for you! Sorry my friend!
