The Reception and Honeymoon

This week, Kelly's Show Us Your Life theme is the reception and honeymoon.

Our reception was held in a tent on the same property as our ceremony. The guests were able to enjoy the afternoon in the gardens while we did pictures but were close enough to town to run in for a coffee if they wanted.

The florist also took care of the decorations in the tent. The tables decorations were simple and the flower arrangements from the church were transported to either end of the head table. For favours, we gave each couple a small box of lindor chocolates with a "Thank You" note attached.

The reception was catered by BBQ Feast and they did a fantastic job. We both wanted something simple yet classy to reflect a combination of our own personal styles. Despite the fact that neither FD or I hardly got a chance to eat a single bite, we heard our guests raving about the food. The dinner including BBQ pulled pork (we even had the whole pig with an apple in it's mouth thing) and BBQ chicken breasts served with a variety of dipping sauces, vegetable kabobs, cold salads, buns and pies for dessert. Also, we served heart shaped shortbread cookies with our initials on it that my BFF and I made (my one and only bridezilla moment - we spent two days making the cookies as wedding favours and then I changed my mind about what I wanted). The caterers brought everything, did all the set up and clean up and made the night unforgettable.

Following dinner, we had speeches and an absolutely hilarious rap written and performed by our very talented MCs. Then for the rest of the night, we enjoyed a good old fashioned hoe down. The FD and I danced to "Bring it on Home" by Little Big Town and my dad and I danced to "My Wish" by Rascall Flatts. The FD, my brother and my brother-in-law performed a lovely dance in honour of my Dad's slick moves on the dance floor.

I had a giveaway bouquet donated to me by the florist which was a miniature replica of my own bouquet. I can't even remember who caught it. Does anyone else remember? Was it Ran?

We left the reception and headed half way to our honeymoon destination, where we stayed at a somewhat sketchy old fashioned inn. Then, early the next morning we drove the rest of the way to my grandma's cottage, stopping for our first breakfast as a married couple along the way. We stayed at the beach for 4 days but the weather wasn't great, so we ended up coming home and spending the rest of the week that he had off work unpacking, painting and organizing our apartment.

My husband used to work for Hilton Torrey Pines. He saw alot of weddings in his 4 years.
He was telling me that the larger the wedding reception the couple had no opportunity to eat.
The hotel would usually include a small meal in the room or the bridal party would make up a plate for them.
Love the photos!

What a great location. We had our ceremony outside and our reception at the same location, but inside. The tents at your reception look amazing. Everything was beautiful.
Now where's that part 7?!!! ;)

P.S. I know you'll be over, but I have an award for you at The Zoo.

Oh man- I wish I could have been at your wedding! It sounds like it was so much fun. However- I might have stayed away from the pig. I don't love the see the face of my food- but you know- I am special.

Seriously- I wish I could have been there. It sounds awesome.
