I Think I've Been Scammed...

For many of you living in Canada, you may have heard of the oh-so-wonderful National Do Not Call List. This fantastic service allows you to register your number to reduce the amount of telemarketing calls you will receive. At last, may we Canadians have the joy of consuming our dinner without the telephone ringing? Watching our favourite TV show without being interrupted by someone requesting our answers to a survey about groundhogs taking over Ontario or something else equally important? I had high hopes for this service ...

Unfortunately, Ladies and Gentlemen let me tell you... I do believe that this National Do Not Call List is, in fact, code for The National Someone Will Now Call You Everyday List.

Before registering for the list, I received a small number of telemarketing calls. Not too many but enough to make me wish that they would stop bothering me. So, when I heard about this service I signed up right away. I do realize that you have to allow 31 days before it will be effective because companies are required to update their DO NOT CALL lists once a month. However, it has been well over one month since I registered and now, I get at least one call every single day, sometimes more. What's worse ... when I ask these people to please stop calling my house the reply is usually, "Okay, mam. We will put you on our do not call list. In the future, you may want to consider registering your telephone number on the national do not call registry". What's more, apparently I am not the only person experiencing this bizarre phenomenon. I've heard from others that their calls have also increased since registering.

I really thought this service was legit. Is anyone else having this problem?

I can honestly say the "do not call registry" has been AWESOME for our family. We used to get 5 or more calls EVERY DAY. Now, that number is WAY down. And I love it.

If it's not working for you, it's time to pony up the cash for call display.

Wow that's so strange. I wonder why I keep getting these calls? I do have call display but lately some of the numbers that have been calling look like local numbers and so I don't think about it before answering. I will have to be more cautious.

Oh no! We get a call from the same number at the same time every day. Last Friday I got fed up and called the number to give them a mouthful. Instead I got a nice message saying I could press "this" number to register on their do not call list. The message also said it would take up to 31 days. Of course, the calls have not stopped yet. Does this mean they'll never stop? Scott thinks I confirmed my presence by replying to the message and that they'll call even more now. Yikes!
