The best part of Eva’s birthday this year was that she really kind of “got it”. She was excited about her birthday – knew it would mean a party, presents, cupcakes and balloons. Her party this year was nothing compared to last year in terms of the hours I spent planning, making decorations, making food and so on – but she loved it just the same. Well, in all honesty, she loved it even better since she didn’t have a clue what was happening last year. Let’s face it – the first birthday party? That was for me. But this year, it was all about her. And she soaked it up.
She actually got to have two parties this year. My mom had a little party for her when I was visiting since they, and my bro and sis-in-law, weren’t going to be able to make it for her actual birthday. It was just a nice dinner – shrimp pasta and croutons (well, Cesar salad, but in Eva’s opinion salad is just a vehicle by which to eat croutons) and ice cream cake – followed by presents! presents! presents! She was so excited to hear everyone sing happy birthday JUST FOR HER.
I think having this party a week ahead of time was fun because it gave her a little taste of what a birthday party entails and helped her become even more excited for the real deal.
Her party was on the day of her actual birthday and it started out wonderfully – the husband had been away for 10 days and arrived home at 7 am – just in time to sneak in to the birthday girl’s room and wake her up. She was so excited to see him. The morning was a normal Saturday morning and then during her nap we set to work to making the house into birthday party central. I decorated her door with streamers and piled a ton of balloons on the floor outside of it. Unfortunately, she woke up on the wrong side of the bed and was less than thrilled when she came out and saw it. Oh well, she got over it quickly and loved the balloons. Bottom right photo? Entitled: It’s my my party and I’ll cry if I want to.
Shortly after her nap our friends and family started to arrive. Once everyone was there, she opened her gifts and had so much fun. Of course, she wanted to open every single toy as soon as she saw it but she was pretty good at thanking the giver and moving on to the next gift.
After presents, everyone chilled while the boys fired up the BBQ and the deep fryer and got to work. A delicious supper of hamburgers, sausages, cold salads and some deep fried yummys. Eva was so excited to have most of her favourite people surrounding her.
After dinner, we got to the part that she had been waiting for – cupcakes and singing happy birthday. The gorgeous cupcakes and cake pops were made by Evan’s cousin, Caley, who also made Eva’s first birthday cake. Talented, or what?
Again, Eva was so thrilled to hear everyone sing Happy Birthday to her. She would have been happy if the singing never stopped.
It made my Mama heart burst to see just how much she loved every minute of her party. It was a splendid, wonderful, heart full day, to say the least.

This age, and birthdays? SO FUN. I love everything about these photos!!!
Although--Eme doesn't quite "get" christmas right now so I'm trying to ask her what she wants for christmas...and she keeps saying "I get presents for Daddy". So. Yea. I mean, the spirit of giving? Great. But...yea. Doesn't help my shopping ;) Maybe I should show her a christmas movie?
Gray got the party thing too. And it was super cute. But now every time we go to someone else's party, he cries on the way there because it's not HIS birthday party. Crap.
Also? You are gorgeous. And skinny.
what a special day! i absolutely love that she walked in crying. that is kind of hilarious. and you're right; this year was so fun because they did kind of get it. it's so much more fun when they interact!
some one always requests, "one more time" after anyone blows out the candles. We usually sing HBD 3x It's tradition and the kids EAT IT UP!! :)
You are beautiful- and no I don't like you that way. I just tell you a lot. (:
